Carissa Clohessy

 

Carissa Clohessy teaches engineering classes at Charles R. Drew Academy for Mathematics, Science, and Fine Arts in the Aldine Independent School District, a magnet middle school in one of the most socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods in Houston, Texas. Since starting at Drew Academy in 2016, Mrs. Clohessy has helped hundreds of 7th and 8th grade students earn high-school credit in engineering. Mrs. Clohessy’s approach to education focuses on helping students develop critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and grit.

Mrs. Clohessy sponsors Drew Academy’s chapter of the Technology Student Association (TSA), a nation-wide organization of students competing in engineering events. Mrs. Clohessy has coached students to be regional and state finalists, and the growth in student leadership skills leads to improved academic performance in all subjects. Mrs. Clohessy also serves as the president for the San Jacinto Regional Technology Association.

Mrs. Clohessy holds certifications in Technology Education Grades 6-12 and Core Subjects (Math, Science, Social Studies, and English Language Arts) Grades 4-8 in the state of Texas. Before obtaining her teaching certifications, Mrs. Clohessy earned a bachelors degree and masters degree in Architecture from Ball State University.
